After a VERY early morning arrival we got up in time to join the cruise
up to the Busses by the Beach show. We were escorted the 4 miles by
fire engines. The show is a Burn Survivors Benefit for Grand Rapids.
The Buses by the Beach are a major contributor to the event. This year
they beat out the Mustang club with the most club vehicles at the show,
a total of 47 Volkswagens. The group expects to raise over $3000 and
with matching corporate contributions a total of $9000 will be donated.
The show had over 500 vehicles entered of all makes and models. There
were fire trucks of all makes, years, and sizes. There was a GM Parade
of Progress vehicle from the 1933 Worlds Fair in Chicago. The Ghias
were escorted in under lights and sirens for a grand entrance. The
Buses by the Beach group had lunches ready for the hungry travelers and
they continued on to Ypsilanti to prepare for the next days show.
We stayed with the Bus folks and enjoyed an evening of Chili cook-off,
(we were judges) music, and raffles.
